“The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”
My addiction to travel began during my second year at university when I spent the fall semester traveling and studying in England, Scotland, and Ireland. The new adventures of each day abroad, combined with the reverse culture shock of coming home made me realize how important travel really is to me. When I came home, I couldn’t stop feeling like something was missing, and it wasn’t long until I began applying for my next study abroad program. I spent the following fall semester studying in Madrid and traveling all over Spain. Since then, Spain has held a special place in my heart. I love the laid-back lifestyle, the food, and working on my never ending goal of mastering the language. I knew that as soon as I graduated, I had to find a way to go back.
Ten days after I finished university, I left home on a trip I’d been planning for years. I spent the summer walking 800 kilometers across northern Spain on the Camino de Santiago. During this time, I also thought a lot about the future. What did I want to do with my life? It’s a question I still haven’t found the answer to, but if there’s one thing that I know I want in life, it is to collect as many new experiences as I possibly can.
That desire brought me back to Europe again. I moved to Spain in the fall of 2014 to teach English in Madrid. I thought I’d only stay a year, but as it turned out, life had other plans. It was the best year of my life, full of the most amazing experiences and unforgettable people I’d ever met. The thought of leaving this new life that I’d built here in this beautiful country and going home to start a real career just wasn’t appealing.
So here I am, living Spain, traveling as much as possible and trying to share all my experiences right here. Welcome to my travel blog, where my passions for adventure, photography, writing, and food meet. I hope you enjoy!
